Beautiful family photos with old friends

Beautiful family photos with old friends

I haven’t seen Amanda is 20 years, holy cow, that is along time.  It has been incredible for me to reconnect with old high school friends since moving back to Colorado.  The best is being part of documenting their amazing families.  This was the Burrow’s […]

Headstudies and a Cutie

Headstudies and a Cutie

I have been doing head studies the last few days.  I’m trying to learn how to properly get skin tones correct and well, painting a face is tough. So practice, practice, practice right.  The first one is of a cute little kid I took pictures of about a week ago. I did this one on a 8×8 deep stretched canvas.  It was a quick and fun one to do.

Alla Prima, 8 x 8 oil on Canvas. “Morgan”

The second one I just finished today, well, I haven’t completely decided if i am finished.  I put 3hrs into it and this was a great one for me to learn with.  It came with its challenges for sure.

My First Ever Commissioned Portrait

I was totally scared and excited to take on this portrait.  I have never done a portrait before, well, I never done one like this, actually trying to make it look like the person.  I was given this photo to go off of…

Here is the progress as I was painting.

I’m pleased on how it came out and I learned a lot along the way.  I used canvas panel for this, which I won’t do again.  It is just to rough of a surface for a portrait.  This has started an obsession with paint portraits.  I’m on my second as we speak.

Here is the final piece, it will be shipping out to its new home with in the next 2 weeks.

Family portraits after a long hiatus

Family portraits after a long hiatus

Had my first family portrait session the other evening after 2 years of not shooting anything.  It felt so great to get back into the saddle again.

The Surrender

The Surrender

Finally finished….. I worked on this piece for about a week which is a lot of attention for someone like me.  I get bored very easily. Here are a few detail shots. This painting is close to my heart because it represents a time of […]
